Sywel Nyw is the moniker of Welsh composer, producer, and DJ, Lewys Wyn. Sywel Nyw’s work spans songwriting, electronic production, DJing, and composition for TV and stage.
His acclaimed debut LP, Deuddeg, won the Welsh Language Album of the Year Award (2022)—a bold, collaborative project featuring twelve different artists across twelve tracks. Over the years, Lewys has worked with internationally renowned musicians, including Welsh icon Endaf Emlyn, powerhouse vocalist Dionne Bennett, and Kliph Scurlock (The Flaming Lips).
2025 marks a new direction for the London-based producer and DJ, having exchanged his previously-favoured alt-pop guitar licks for a deep dive into the world of skittery beats, chopped samples and textured melodies. Often skipping from joy to melancholy, Sywel Nyw returns this year with new material, pushing further into the realms of euphoric dance beats while maintaining his hallmark textured melodies and intricate production.
Beyond his solo work, Lewys is an accomplished composer for TV and stage. He recently crafted a new theme tune for the BBC Welsh drama Rownd a Rownd and has just finished scoring the original soundtrack for Hafiach, set for release in early 2025.
With an ever-evolving sound, Sywel Nyw continues to push creative boundaries—whether on record, behind the decks, or in cinematic storytelling.
